🇯🇵 Japan's New Era! My Czech Friend Asks: "A Female PM? Is That Okay?" (And My Answer!) October 8, 2025 (Wednesday)
This morning, I got a surprising message on Messenger from my friend in the Czech Republic:
"Is it really okay to have a female Prime Minister in Japan?"
As expected, the arrival of new LDP President Sanae Takaichi is clearly making waves overseas. Foreign media seems to be reporting on her in a very superficial, cautionary way, often with headlines like "Far-Right" and "Is Japan becoming more conservative?"
But my response was immediate and to the point.
"Totally fine! In fact, I'm thrilled! She's the rightful successor to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe [who delivered economic results]. She'll do a much better job than former PM Ishiba or former PM Kishida! The stock market soared on Monday in celebration, and the Japanese economy is about to make a comeback!"
I sent that message full of confidence and enthusiasm (lol).
🔥 A "Three Strikes" Change Vindicating the Will of the People
If you only follow the international news, you might focus on her being the "first female PM" or her "conservative hardliner" image, which might naturally lead to a skeptical "Is this okay?"
But hold on a second. For those of us watching the political situation here, the outcome of this presidential election was nothing less than a "victory for the will of the people."
If you recall the previous LDP presidential election, Party Members and Friends (general supporters) heavily favored Takaichi. Yet, the LDP Diet members chose Shigeru Ishiba, judging that he would make their own re-election easier—a classic case of self-interest.
What was the result?
The Ishiba Cabinet lost public support due to its confusing economic policies and slow response to political funding scandals, leading to crushing defeats in the General Election, the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Election, and the House of Councillors Election. It was a "three strikes and you're out," forcing an early party presidential election.
🚀 Overturning the Predictions of Old Media...
Even this time, the legacy media ("old media") continued to report skeptically on Takaichi, pushing predictions that "Koizumi Jr. is the favorite," as they were generally against her winning.
However! In the end, backed by the strong support of the Party Members and Friends, Sanae Takaichi triumphed in the runoff vote and secured the position of LDP President!
This result sends a clear message that the Japanese people (Party Members and Friends) are not prioritizing the convenience of individual politicians or old factional logic. Instead, they are unequivocally demanding genuine economic revitalization and strong leadership for Japan.
That’s why I want to tell my Czech friend with full confidence:
"Japan's new leader was chosen with strong public expectation and support. Both the economy and politics are set to improve from here!"
I felt it was important to share the "change" and the "excitement" happening here in Japan, rather than letting superficial reports dominate the narrative.
What are your thoughts on the arrival of Japan's "first female Prime Minister"? Let me know in the comments!
