💥 Breaking News! Takaichi is the New Prime Minister! A Dramatic Shift with the "Ishin Coalition"!? Wednesday, October 22, 2025
So, it finally happened yesterday: Japan's first-ever female Prime Minister was born!
After President Takaichi was selected, there was a completely unexpected turn of events. Komeito, a long-time coalition partner, pulled out of the alliance, and instead, the Liberal Democratic Party quickly got close to the Japan Innovation Party (Nippon Ishin no Kai)! In a flash, a new coalition government was established, securing a majority in the first vote in the Lower House. Thus, the 104th Prime Minister was born. Seriously, the speed of this drama was incredible!
👩💼 Only Two Female Ministers!? My Honest Reaction to the New Cabinet
There is one thing that made me genuinely think, "Wait, what?" when I saw the faces in the new Cabinet. That is the fact that there are only two female ministers.
With the birth of the first female Prime Minister, many of us were probably expecting more women to be appointed. I was a bit surprised and, to be honest, disappointed.
✂️ No Time to Waste! "Diet Member Reduction" is Finally Moving Forward with the Ishin Agreement!
And right away, based on the agreement made with the Japan Innovation Party (the driving force behind the new coalition), the talk about "reducing the number of Diet members" is getting serious.
It is likely that the first area to be tackled will be the proportional representation seats in the House of Representatives.
What is the "Real Intention" of the Lawmakers Opposing the Reduction?
Komeito and the Japanese Communist Party are raising objections to this move.
Looking at national finance and public opinion, the majority of the public would have to agree with the reduction itself. However, this is a matter of life and death for the so-called "proportional zombies"—lawmakers who can only get elected through the proportional block.
They talk about "for the sake of the people," but their true motive is clearly self-preservation—to protect their job (seat). We don't need "zombie lawmakers" who were rejected by the public in their electoral district but then get resurrected through the proportional list.
It makes me realize once again that we need to develop a sharper eye for electing politicians who will truly work for the people.
What do you all think about this new administration and the move to reduce the number of Diet members? Please share your thoughts in the comments! ✨
